As she drew closer, his eyelids fluttered open and he intently stared at her. Gasping in surprise, Cindy self-consciously covered her mouth to muffle the sound. His eyes weren't brown, but crystalline blue, the color of an Alaskan glacier in the sunlight. She had never seen such gorgeous eyes.
Mesmerized by his steady gaze, she drew closer still. Her heart pounded; breathing normally was out of the question. She felt like she was falling into those pools of blue, never to surface again.
When some of Cindy's friends had told her about love at first sight, she scoffed at the idea. No one could fall in love that quickly. Or could they? The emotion welling up in Cindy's chest certainly felt like love.
The eyes pulled her in, so close now that she could have touched him. She desperately wanted to reach out to him, but would he welcome her touch, or would he reject it?
Bending over him, Cindy was startled when he raised his hand and the tips of his fingers grazed her cheek, his clear blue eyes locked on hers. She was definitely in love. Could it be love at first sight for him too?
"Pick him up, Cindy," her husband said. "The nurse said it was okay."
Cautiously, Cindy reached into the crib and lifted the baby into her arms. He snuggled there, and the look in his amazing blue eyes seemed to say that he knew she had come to be his mother.
