Trap the heat, let none escape.
Close my eyes, shroud my ears,
Forbid the truth I dread to hear.
Breathe the chill’s clutching hands
That grips my throat with cold commands.
Breathe the words that paralyze,
Demanding buried tears must rise.
Guess the temper of this white storm;
Will it rage in fury, leave a path transformed?
Guess the power of her illness
That invades her body’s stillness.
Wait for signs of storm’s retreat;
Recoiling clouds grant air that’s sweet.
Wait and pray her pain to cease;
Restore my friend, renew her peace.
Remember clouds that gave relief,
A warmer time, a fallen leaf.
Remember her laughter at silly faces,
Painting shells and swimming races.
Forgive the winter’s fateful blast;
A promised spring will come at last.
Forgive the days of youthful choices;
Hear redemption from angels’ voices.
Ask the storm how it came to be,
Will it return before eternity?
Ask why she’s gone–only eleven,
Why lift her soul so young to heaven?
Whisper peace as snow settles,
Melt drops upon red tulip petals.
Whisper love as her eyes close;
Pain gone, she rests, a budding rose.
