Here I am in line once more,
My back aches, my feet are sore.
The clerk announces, “All sold out.”
Tempers flare but I just pout.
I now devise a great plan ‘B’,
I won’t give up, no not me.
Ipods and things with remotes--
Surely these will win some votes.
I rush about in the mall,
I’m so tired I want to bawl.
My list is far from being finished,
Though my spirits have diminished.
A lady now scowls and squints,
I took her place in line she hints.
I smile and act somewhat meek
A “thank you” she forgets to speak.
“That’s it, “ I was truly irked,
Shoppers said I went berserk.
I pushed her back out of line
Reclaiming what I knew was mine.
She then came back with a vengeance,
Shoving me without repentance,
The tiger in me raised its head,
I knocked her down, thought she was dead.
When “security” came to aisle 5
She began to stir, she was alive.
Her shoes were off her swollen feet,
She was the picture of defeat.
I said, “I’m sorry,” but would she hear it?
Could she sense some Christmas spirit?
Her answer came through loud and clear,
“This spot is mine, move over dear!”
“My goodness,” said Angel Grace, “I don’t see Christmas in that place.” Angel Claire had to agree, distressed at the calamity. But then together they did find people of a different kind.
Heads bowed on Christmas eve
In reverence to the Lord,
A simple service, but sincere,
God’s love was not ignored.
Worshippers brought offerings
From pockets almost empty,
The blessings given back to them
Overflowed to more than plenty.
Where some might see poverty
God knows the rich in spirit,
Gathered together in His name
Each word in prayer, He hears it.
The Christmas gospel message
Touched every seeking soul,
Imparted now with hope and joy,
They trusted God’s control.
Oh, such miracles we see
Of God’s dear Son on earth,
His love can bridge a canyon wide
Because each soul has worth.
He gave His peace to all mankind
That we should never fear,
Though we cannot see Him,
We know He’s always near.
Hope for the persecuted
Who suffer in His name,
He promises if we hold fast
A mansion we will claim.
Born of mystic powers,
His purpose was just one.
He came to earth that we might live,
His Father’s will was done.
You’ve witnessed now two dramas, one of which is clear. Jesus is the reason for Christmas joy each year.
