“Of course you can, Tina. Abby and Mia were just teasing you,” as the two were giggling to themselves in triumph of irritating their younger sister. “Tina, I’ll let you put the special crystal egg on the tree. Would you like that?”
The elfin four-year-old bubbled up with delight at the thought of having such an honor…and raised her nose a bit at the two older siblings as she held the special egg. As she moved closer to the tree, the sunrays bounced off the special cuts of glass and created a carnival atmosphere around the room. Tina’s eyes danced with delight at the color show.
Abby, Mia and Tina went into their fairy world and danced around the room with graceful pirouettes and spins. I imagined they believed they were in the land of princes and maidens…surrounded by an enchanted forest.
Love for my girls washed over me as I watched them enjoy their life. I wished I could protect them from the realities of the world as they grow up. Their little princess hearts will someday be hurt and they will lose that look of awe and wonderment as they enjoy life now. I want to make everyday special for them. So today, the goal is to make Easter special.
Abby lined up the Easter baskets on the counter. Mia filled them with plastic grass…oops! Some fell on Tina’s head. “Look, Mom! I have green hair!”
“And it’s so shiny, too! How do you do it, Tina?” I asked her in a serious tone.
Mia asked, “Are we gonna make Easter cookies, too? I want to frost mine with pretty colors.”
“Sure, Honey…as long as the frosting goes on the cookies and not in your tummy.”
Mia giggled with the thought.
Abby, being the eldest at eight, wanted to know what she should wear on Easter Sunday to church. “Maybe we should go shopping, Mom, for something special to wear.”
“We’ll see…” I did enjoy our outings together and know she will be a teen before long and want to be with her friends…and not with her mom as much.
The excitement of the season was brewing among the girls. Everything was looking so pretty decorated, and fun plans were being made. Easter was going to be special.
Mia brought the mail in from the front door box. Holding out a bright purple envelope, she exclaimed, “Look! I think it’s an Easter card! Let’s make it a decoration, too!”
I saw no return address on the envelope. I turned it over and opened the envelope. All three girls leaned in around me to see what was inside. A beautiful floral card was inside complete with butterflies, lilies, and other Springtime beauty. They delighted in the colors and sparkles over the card running their fingers over it lightly. I opened it and inside was a nice verse wishing us a happy Easter. But there was no signature.
“Who’s it from, Mom?” Abby asked.
“I don’t know, Honey. No one signed it.”
“Do you think they forgot to sign it?” Mia thought aloud.
“It’s so pretty, it is.” Tina softly said as she caressed the edge.
“Yes, it is. We’ll have to find a special place for it.”
Just then, I closed the card and turned it over to look at the back. There was a handwritten note that said, “The tomb was empty, too! Happy Easter!”
I was taken aback for a moment. It truly caught my attention to what made Easter special.
“What does that say, Mom?” Tina pointed at the note.
“Well, Tina, it just reminded me of a very special Easter story. Would you girls like to hear it?”
They all nodded in anticipation.
I walked over to the bookshelf and removed the Bible. All of us girls cuddled together on the couch to share in the extraordinary awe and wonderment of Easter. Thinking of Jesus, I prayed to myself in thankfulness for this special season with my girls!
