I saw an awful lot of disappointed faces when I walked out. Too bad their band is taking the Sunday off. How can anyone not love to sing a rousing hymn? There’s such history behind each one. I always feel like I’ve done an aerobic workout when I’m finished each Sunday. Oh my, how will this seventy-year-old body lead twice? I’ll be slathered down tonight with my muscle cream pain reliever.
Those teens look like they were up all night; probably running the streets. Wish they would sit in the back. What a distraction. Okay, focus; here’s the last song.

It’s my turn to deliver the communion meditation. Now where did I put my notes? Ah, Mandy’s bringing me my Bible with my notes stuffed in there somewhere. She sure is a good daughter. Even with her marriage and health problems, her faith seems to grow stronger. Some look down on her because of some of the scrapes she’s been in but they don’t bother to learn the facts. You can’t stop gossip if you chase it down and hog-tie it. It gets away and the stories get juicier. I love this church a whole lot, but give me a crying baby any day than some of these whining people. I love a baby’s ‘hallelujah wail.’

I’m tired but excited. It’s my first time to sing a solo. First service didn’t seem to appreciate my song choice very much. I expect a better response now. I really wish I didn’t have that late night pizza after the convention. It’s trying to come back at the worst possible time. The guys Adam talked to last night about making a decision for the Lord — they’re actually here! Oops, that note would’ve been embarrassing. The Bible does say make a joyful noise but I don’t think burping through my favorite song counts. I made it through and everyone’s clapping. God, it’s all for You!

These are Your people, Lord. Thank You for placing me in this church. The youth got through a service of hymns. Good for them. Allison did a great job with her special but don’t know what was up with that funny face she made half-way through. Several teens are being baptized. Adam is a very good role-model for these kids. Wish people would remember that these teens are our future.
Wanda put her whole body into leading today. She’s so much fun to watch. Her husband tells me that she uses some stinky smelling cream after services each Sunday. He’ll really be complaining now. I think he’s worried about her. She’s getting awful old to be doing so much.
There’s quite a few crying babies today. Harold calls them the ‘hallelujah wails.’ He may not be well-schooled but he is a man in the Word. He did a good job with the communion meditation.
There’s Ida clipping her nails. Good old Ida; a real prayer warrior. Help me see past the pile of nails, Lord.
Looks like George forgot his deodorant this morning. The pew cleared when his family showed up. If only everyone knew how many people George helped in his handy-man ministry. Maybe then they could overlook the smell. Mandy could be such an inspiration to many people if they could ignore gossip and hear the truth. Tragedies have tripped her up but she continues to stand strong in the Lord.
Aha! That’s who I was looking for, my dearest wife. She’s been by my side through boring sermons and sleepless nights and lots of good things in between. I love Deb, Lord.
The view from up here is much different than in the pew. I pray that everything said and done from this pulpit glorifies You. Forgive us when we allow our perspectives to cloud what’s real. I know there will be someone at my door early tomorrow ready to gripe about something. Fill me up, so I’m ready to deal with those problems. Help me point them to You, so that they can gain a Heavenly perspective. Lord, thank You for this Lord’s Day and for this congregation. Amen!

This was a little bit tart and a little bit sweet, just like the best meal.
