Jesus and his disciples were spending with the people that gathered to hear Jesus’ teachings. There were so many of them, but each seemed to love going out and learning from Him. They ate together the bread and fish offered. The time spent together was precious.
The doctor’s appointment was at 11:00 a.m. Marian had some tests taken last week, and the doctor didn’t seemed too concerned. They were being very thorough with blood tests, x-rays, and more. It’s important to stay on top of things, she thought. Her two daughters were there to take her. They got into the car. They began their trip.
Jesus said to the disciples that they should go to the other side of the lake. They left the crowd and got on the boat. Perhaps there would be more teachings on board. It’s important to listen to Him at every opportunity. They began their trip.
As the doctor entered the room where they sat waiting, his face held a message of concern. “The x-rays show cancer spots on the lungs.” Marian stared at nothing. Her daughter dropped her purse and needed a chair. The room seemed to spin. The storm had begun.
The sky darkened and the wind picked up. It seemed to come from nowhere. The storm had begun.
Everything had changed in Marian’s life…there was no stability. Schedules were put together for oncology visits, more blood tests, planning for the results of the chemo on her body…she was drowning in despair. Didn’t Jesus care?
Jesus was sleeping peacefully in the stern. The water sprayed across the deck of the boat making it difficult to maneuver. The disciples were sure they would all drown. Didn’t Jesus care?
As Marian sat quietly in her living room, trying to grasp the enormity of her situation, she found it difficult to talk to Jesus. She wanted to, but her anxiety was keeping her from reaching out. She took her bible and began to read. The words began to ease her worries of the future. God’s promises to her to never leave her nor forsake her, to be her Good Shepherd, brought a peace beyond understanding. The storm died down.
He got up. Jesus rebuked the wind and the waves. He said, “Be quiet.” The storm died down.
God’s Word spoke to Marian’s heart. Where was her trust and faith in the Lord she has worshipped since she was a young girl. He has always kept His promises. Marian knew she was blessed in many ways. He was trustworthy.
Jesus asked the disciples, “Where is your faith?” They had been so afraid, and they had not remembered all the things Jesus had done for them. He was trustworthy.
Marian was amazed by the faithfulness of Jesus. She experienced peace she thought she never would feel again. God is so much bigger than this cancer. Even now, I have so much to learn about Him. Who is He?
The disciples were frightened by what they experienced and stood in awe of what Jesus did for them. He made the wind and waves obey Him. Who is He?
