When ever I asked for help finding something my mother called me “Mr. eyes and no eyes.”
If I ever met an unsung hero I was apparently too blind to notice.
Perhaps the problem lies in the definition. What is an unsung hero? Maybe it is the opposite of a well-sung hero.
Marilyn is definitely a hero to many people. She has boo-k-who awards to prove it. She is a bigger than life lady in her mid seventies with the energy of a pair of two year olds. Her heart is as deep and wide as a couple oceans. Her smile is better than anything in Hollywood and her ability to encourage is boundless.
What kind of hero is Marilyn’s opposite?
Kathy is shy to the point of being nearly anonymous. She moves at a snails pace, and rarely lifts her eyes from the tips of her shoes. I don’t recall ever seeing a smile cross her face. Yet she is generous with her accounting skills. She audits non-profit agencies books for free. This makes her a candidate for hero. She is however widely known and openly appreciated for her generous gift of time and talent. She is definitely a hero. She too is a well-sung.
Let me try again.
Jim is never at a loss for concepts. He has thousands of ideas about how to promote good causes. He invests 100% of himself into what ever he does and his success rate is consistent with his investment. Jim is known and respected wherever he goes. His office wall is a framed tribute to his ability. Jim is a well-sung hero.
Who might qualify to be Jim’s opposite in the singing department?
Bob is a man that spends most of his time alone. He gives every appearance of preferring his own company to that of other people. He asks for nothing from anyone else yet he is a hero because he has a heart for foreign missions. In his quiet way he is Mr. Missionary to the Missionaries. His generosity in this regard is renown. He too is well-sung at least in this one area.
The law of opposites doesn’t seem to apply. I’ll try another tactic..
I know a lady that is unhappy about everything. The other day she told me that she hates people with company paid health insurance. She went on to say that it isn’t right for companies to provide retirement plans for their employees. She hates people that have income that they aren’t currently earning. People avoid her whenever they can. If she is hiding a gift that qualifies her as a hero then she qualifies as an unsung hero. Yet he venomous words so frequently offered without invitation make me doubt that she does anything heroic.
Compared to Marilyn and Jim almost everyone on the planet is unsung. This includes some hero’s, but so far I’m not able to think of any person with heroic qualities that is totally unsung. Of course I’m Mr. eyes and no eyes. Fortunately God has better vision than I do. I’m positive He’s is saving some “Well done good and faithful servant” accolades for a few folks that I’m not recognizing.
“Mom where is that can of tomato soup?”
“Six inches from your nose Mr. eyes and no eyes.”
“Oh.”

You have several little errors here and there--perhaps an additional edit would catch them? And I was puzzled by boo-k-who awards; I've never heard of those.
This was thought-provoking, to be sure! I hope I'm not like that last person...
