My eyes are heavy as I watch the drops. My mind is dazed; I can’t quite comprehend how this can be my reality. A little mis-step snapped my anklebone in two. You might say I even took it in stride. At first, I didn’t panic. I thought about the problems it would cause but I saw the conclusion of the matter too. I wasn’t worried, and I thought that was faith. ‘God is good. God loves me. This will be okay.’ What I knew in my head lulled me to sleep.
The flood of complications that ensued washed away my illusion of peace. Insurance issues, surgical complications and finally the dreaded diagnosis that brought this blup blup blup infusion: MRSA infection created a torrent of fear and discouragement. I desperately needed the knowledge in my head to become full and real in my heart. But it wasn’t a flood that brought the transformation.
It was a steady blup-blup-blup. Just like the IV that delivered physical hope, the Word of God and faithful believing friends dripped into the bucket of my heart. Drop-by-drop faith infused life back into my soul. In due time, a drop in the bucket fills it full!
“Do not despise these small beginnings, for the LORD rejoices to see the work begin to see the plumb line in Zerubbabel’s hand.†Zechariah 4:10
P.S. This is a real story. The infection cleared, the ankle healed, and the foundation of faith is taller and stronger than before! What remains is better than what was. To God be great glory.
