I do not take it for granted that my family and my husband’s family—parents, in-laws, brothers, sister, and their families were able to enjoy vacations together. Brown County State Park in Indiana was one of our favorite places. We have precious memories of hikes, swimming, riding horses, and trips into town for ice cream. One fond memory is of the summer the two grandmothers decided to give water guns to all the grandchildren with the condition that they could not shoot the grandmothers! We still laugh when we see pictures of cousins with water splashes on their backs, and dry grandmothers smiling as they looked on.
I am thankful that I can not only be at peace with my family and in-laws, but also with all people and Almighty God. The promise that rang out the night of our Savior’s birth is true: “Glory to God in the highest, and on earth peace to men....”. (Luke 2:14 NIV). God wants to give us peace with Him and with our families and friends.
Today my parents and my parents-in-law are in Heaven. Often my heart yearns for one more evening together. I believe our times together here on earth were a foretaste of future times we will share in Heaven. Maybe, some day, we can even have a good-natured water fight!
Prayer: Thank you, Father, for sending Jesus that we might have peace. Thank you for the peace I have in you. And thank you for the peace I can have with all people now and throughout eternity. Amen.
