and words—they churn, but actions seem in vain,
I’m tempted to rise early in the morning
and toil until my schedule bears the gain.
But there’s a place where rivers of refreshment
can strengthen weary hands and gird the mind.
Within His streams of counsel, I find guidance.
His truth renews my thoughts and halts the grind.
When nighttime offers grave, foreboding shadows
that haunt with past regrets and future tears,
and worry shawls its sticky web around me
to suffocate my hopes and dreams with fears,
my aching heart can’t be a trusted ally
to guide me to the path that’s firm and true.
But there’s a place of refuge and of comfort;
upon my knees, His faithful voice breaks through.
When blissful times invade my life with singing,
and joy erupts from withered realms of soul,
or sacrificial praise eclipses weeping
and clears the tab of sorrow’s heavy toll,
my flesh would have me vault the triumph’s plunder--
to guard the spoils of war I tend to horde.
But there’s a place to cast my crowns and armor
and dance with all my might before the Lord.
Through Word and prayer and praise I am united
with the King who makes my heart His home.
He takes my hand and leads me to His glory,
till guilt attempts to keep me from His throne.
But there’s a place where sin has been defeated.
The Bridegroom speaks to me and lifts my face.
“I purchased you with scarlet drops of mercy.
Now, nothing can withhold you from my grace.”
“So, come into My presence with thanksgiving.
Throw off your daily cares and nighttime fear.
Unclothe yourself of all your proud assessments,
and rest in me, My Love, for I am near.
You’ll feel the lifting weight of all your burdens
begin to shift your thoughts to solid ground.
Your purpose, strength, and worth are hidden treasures.
But there’s a place—in Me—where they are found.”
