"It must be here. It has to be here. It is driving me insane."
Brenda sighed deeply as the sound intensified. She just couldn't take it any longer. She had to put a stop to this madness. She jumped to her feet and strode toward her grandfather's office. She considered knocking, but decided that it would be futile. Instead, she turned the knob and pushed opened the door.
"I can't take it."
Brenda looked with pity upon the sight before her. Her grandfather stood in the middle of a disastrous mess of office supplies strewn everywhere. He was clad in a worn plaid shirt, sagging denim jeans, and woolen socks with no shoes. His thinning hair lay flat upon his head. His eyes, though, so wide open and confused, were what made the entire picture so very sad.
"You need to calm down, grandpa."
"It's here, Brenda. I have to find it."
"What is here?"
"A listening device. They are hearing everything I say."
"Who?"
"I don't know. I might know if I could find the device, but I can't. This thing is killing me."
Brenda watched in agony as her grandfather dropped to his knees. Her frustration had quickly morphed into deep sorrow as she realized the state into which he had fallen. He was a broken man, but what he was saying just didn't make any sense. The sound of the doorbell shook her from her state of confusion.
"Hold on, grandpa. I have to answer the door."
Brenda left the home office and walked toward the front door. She was still shaking from the sight of her sad grandfather and she wasn't thinking clearly. She opened the door without checking to see who it was and as she did she was confronted by two burly men with steely faces staring at her.
"Who are you?"
"Federal government."
The lead man pushed his way in after quickly flashing something that Brenda was unable to read.
"We are here for Ezekiel Elliot."
"Grandpa?"
"Is he here?"
"Yes. Why?"
The second man entered and held Brenda as the first man headed directly for the home office like he knew the layout of the home.
"Let go of me, " Brenda pleaded.
The man let go, but continued to glare at her. The first man returned guiding a clearly confused Ezekiel toward the front door and outside as Brenda stood with her mouth slightly open, but unable to respond. The second man glared once more before joining the two men outside.
"I'm a God-fearing Christian man, " Ezekiel exclaimed as he was forced toward a dark sedan.
"We know that, sir, " the first man said. "That is exactly why we are here."
Brenda watched them drive away. She began to pray silently as she realized that silently was the only way that she would ever pray again.

These days there is no privacy. If the goverment wants to, they can listen through your TV's, phones, cars, and who knows what else. Yet we should never be afraid because the Lord is always there with us. Good story idea that could be developed into a nice short story. Blessings.
With a country full of luke-warm and fake Christians; laws can be passed where this is the politically correct thing to be done.
Well written warning to those listening.
It's sad to see how far being politically correct has taken us.
