Jeremiah opened his eyes to the sight of twelve other eyes staring back at him.
"Were you sleeping?" Victoria Mendoza asked pointedly.
"No, but I will be soon," Jeremiah replied. "I'm thinking that we should call it a night."
"But I haven't had my turn," David Simpson whined slightly.
"I promise you can go first at the next meeting, David. I really want to get home to my family. Besides, it would take us years to implement all of the suggestions that we have already heard. We should all go home and pray about them."
After some minor grumbling the meeting adjourned and the group quickly dispersed. Jeremiah was left all alone in his office. The walls felt as though they were pressing in on him. He wondered when the excitement of saving the world had given way to the weight of running an organization peopled mostly with volunteers.
"How had it come to this?" He mused as he took out his cell phone and noticed a message from his wife.
"I can't keep doing this to my family," He said angrily as hit play on the message.
He listened as first his daughter and then his son said good night to him. He knew he should have heard these things in person instead of listening to the well-meaning but probably fruitless ideas of his council. He dialed his wife's number and waited for her lovely voice.
"It is so good to hear your voice, Teresa."
"What was the topic?"
"Seems like that one comes up a lot."
"They all want me to try some new method or idea. It makes my head hurt just trying to keep them all straight."
"What do you want to do?"
"Good question. I think I'm going to spend some time here and see if I can get an answer."
"I'll see you in the morning."
"I can't wait."
Jeremiah slowly walked down the stairs and into the sanctuary. As he did so he became aware of a mist near the piano on the stage. As he drew closer he began to feel the weight of it; the weight of the glory of God. It was not a weight that pushed Jeremiah down, but a weight that lifted him up into the very presence of God. He fell to his knees, raised his hands toward heaven, and began to praise the almighty God. His answer was the glory of God. When the people of God turned over control of their lives through real praise then people would be drawn to where God was truly being enthroned. It truly was that simple; it truly was.
