At the outset of love’s young dream a young couple, each with their rose-tinted spectacles, are so sure they will remain together until death does them part – well, that is unless their comfort is invaded. I wonder how many stand with crossed fingers as they make their promises. And are those promises really made before God Almighty as they know and love Him, or merely lip service to a god they have made a nominal recognition to?
I am intrigued by Genesis 2:24 --- a man will leave his father and mother and be united to his wife, and they will become one flesh.
So we read that God, at the beginning of creation, refers to first man and first woman as husband and wife, leaving father and mother (?) and cleaving to one another in unity. I leave that question to ask my Heavenly Father when I get to heaven, but meantime I follow the searching of Solomon as he seeks meaning and wisdom in life.
One of the first gems comes from Ecclesiastes 4:12. A cord of three strands is not quickly broken. This was the verse chosen by one of our sons for his wedding, and I have to agree that a relationship between husband, wife, and the Lord cannot be easily broken.
M. “Meaningless! Meaningless!” says the Teacher. “Utterly meaningless! Everything is meaningless.” Moreover, he continues in his diatribe, no-one knows when his hour will come.
A. Adding one thing to another, Ecclesiastes goes on to say that even wisdom, pleasures, Advancement, are all meaningless, but if we look carefully at the context and the continuity we read that there is A time and place for everything, and what is really needed is to stand in Awe of God.
R. Relationship between bride and groom can best be described by the Relationship between Jesus as Bridegroom and the Church as His Bride. Clothed in Righteousness, - dressed in fine linen – the believers who have Repented of sin
R. Recognised the Redemption offered by their Saviour, Remember the instruction of their Creator. In the Realisation that all depends on obedience to their Redeemer, there are important premises to follow.
I. Investigate what the author and perfecter of our faith Instructs in His Word. It is Important to understand the dangers of Immorality, and the Inheritance that is available for those who persevere in the Increase of their knowledge and understanding.
A. Answers are Available to every question that Arises on life’s journey and it is Always Advisable to consult the Admonitions found in the Word of God.
G. God Almighty is the ultimate source of all wisdom and knowledge, and His Guidance should be sought at all times. Guarding our steps and Giving ourselves as a living sacrifice is the only Gift we can return for the Gift of Eternal life received on confession of belief.
E. Ecclesiastes concludes with the End of the matter. (Ecclesiastes 12:13,14) “Fear God and keep His commandments, for this is the whole duty of man. For God will bring every deed into judgment, including every hidden thing, whether it is good or evil.
That is meaningful!
Yes, our Lord will come again. Are we ready? Are our lamps trimmed and oil-filled?
