Once we accept Jesus Christ as our Savior, we need to feed our hearts and minds with His spiritual food, in much the same way as we feed our bodies with physical food. Some of the ways we can feed our hearts and our minds is by reading God’s Word, praying to Him, thanking Him, worshipping Him, and fellowshipping with other believers. If we neglect to take in our spiritual food, our faith can eventually begin to fizzle. Then what started out like the fourth of July, with joy and exuberance, can leave us feeling empty with feelings of despair and hopelessness. That does not happen because God leaves us, but because we forget about Him. We fail to spend time with Him, and outside influences, activities, and concerns begin to fill those empty places that God intended to fill with Himself.
When we return to eat at the King’s table, our faith is rekindled, and we are no longer like a dying ember whose heat has begun to fizzle. Hope, once again, fills our hearts and minds as we learn to trust in our Savior.
