'Grandma, when was this one taken?'
'Let me think, it was August 1969., Tthat's when I met your Grandpa.
Like yourself, I was 21 and this was my first time going anywhere with out family. My folks were not happy about me going.'
'Grandma this photo shows thousands upon thousands of people in colourful clothes.'
'Yes, my dear., Hard to believe, but your gGrandparents went to Woodstock.'
'Grandma! You never.' Susan raised raises her eye brows. 'You’re only wearing a bra and panties in this picture.
What would the Church's WomansWomens group think?'
'Don't be so surprised! Eeven they were young once themselves. Susan don't be so judgemental. Rremember, I see your Facebook. But it was very daunting for a young country girl.'
'Did you see Jimi Hendrix?'
'Yes! Wwe were about 50 feet from the stage. When he played The Star Spangled Banner, in his unique style, the crowd was totally surprised.
The song I remember the most from Woodstock was a song by Janis Joplin. Let me show you this picture. She was singing 'Me and Bobby McGee' when I first saw this man here. He was jumping up and down and shouting, ‘she’ is singing about me!. At first, I thought he was on something, but I found out later that he was just excited because his name was Bobby.
I know you called Grandpa, Grandpa Robert, but we called him Bobby back then.'
She points at a dog- eared picture on the right. 'See this picture? Yyour Grandpa took it, you can see me there and on stage was Jefferson Airplane., They were singing ‘Somebody To Love’. Your Grandpa told me it was after that song he knew he wanted to marry me. It did finally take his three years to convince me and my folks though.
Bobby actually lived thirty miles from me and worked on his father’s farm and he became a regular visitor to the ranch, even helping out in the farm. This was really handy since Joe, your great uncle, died in the Vietnam war.
When we got married, my dDad and your gGrandpa built this house I still live in now.'
'So this picture is of my gGreat gGrandfather and Grandpa. Is that you? You look pregnant.'
'Yes I was carrying your mother. I was 26 and married two years.'
'You all look so happy. Grandma, I'm jealous., I would love a steady relationship.'
Susan takes out her mobile and shows her some pictures. 'That's Peter. Hhe's the pPastor’s son, unfortunately we're just friends.'
She wipesWiping a tear from gGranddaughters face. 'Susan, you never know when true love will find you. Let me make some cappuccinos.'
She cComes back in with two wide cups., ‘I put extra cream in yours, just the way you like it.
Susan, take that picture out of the album and look at the back.'
Susan takes out a dog- eared picture and slowly turns it. New tears well up. 'Grandma, that is lovely. "From the first moment I saw you I knew that I would always love you. You have made me the happiest of men." signed Bobby, dated 23rd September 2011.’
‘He kept this picture in his wallet for nearly 42 years, until he gave it to me at the hospital where he died two days later.’
