Kingdoms flourished.
The weak did fall.
Land was conquered.
Built castles, tall.
Food aplenty.
Then none at all.
Fortified gates.
A jagged wall.
Rule the masses.
On knees they crawl.
Begged for water,
But gave them gall.
The lowly frightened.
Defend the small.
My God! My God!
Please hear our call!
So long ago,
This was the tale.
The frightened saints,
In living hell.
But our God proved,
Inside this jail,
A Mighty Fortress,
He did prevail!
And now today,
With hearts so frail,
We scale new walls.
Our souls, for sale.
But we find strength,
And will set sail.
For God Almighty,
Is in the gale.
Though still ahead,
Tall mountains lie.
While in this valley,
We see the sky.
Though evil dwells,
Like birds, we'll fly.
Our God is with us,
No need to cry.
What is a life,
But time gone by?
Tis just a vapor.
We all must die.
A Mighty Fortress,
Our King on High!
Thy will be done,
Our Adonai.
