Expand…they say the universe expanded from its single point of origin and is expanding still. God, the point of origin, called it into being with a word, and carefully scattered it in all directions, blessing each bit of matter as it sailed through the void. All expansion starts that way – from a single point, blossoming outward. A woman does not like to use the word “expansion” to describe the progress of her pregnancy, but she, too, is blessed at conception from a single point, the merging of two cells, a spark of life which expands cell by cell, until that bundle of human potential starts to stretch its empty, protectively dark universe, the womb. And the woman stretches, too, becoming a mother, her body expanding with the growth and robust movements of her little one. Her entire life will have to expand in order to cradle that little one, that child, expanding her love and the work of her hands from womanhood to motherhood.

All good dreams start that way as well…from a spark, or a seed, all the way to a bonfire, or a tree. Expansion of that dream, that seed, overtakes and overshadows other things in its path, but growth is comprised of that struggle to choose what to keep in order to feed that spark, that sapling, that little child, and what to push away, clearing the path. It’s not comfortable, and it’s often painful, but whatever isn’t growing is busy dying. The Great I Am instructed us long ago that to follow Him, we must choose life. Reluctantly or eagerly, we must necessarily choose to expand.
