Was warning from the Lord of all that this empire was doomed to fall.
The cavemen wrote on cold stone walls with symbols hieroglyphic
Of animals and mighty deeds, both actual and mythic.
On blackboard walls, school masters scripted what their lessons meant,
And naughty children wrote there, too, at times of punishment.
While written words on walls have been since days of yore a common fixture,
Technology of modern times commands a mammoth cyber mixture.
For with the birth of Facebook came a wide-ranged writing venue.
You’ll be amazed at wealth of words from all of those who “friend” you:
Sad remarks and comments glad, unkind words that make you mad
So much to do for school or work, enough to drive a soul berserk
Special days’ congratulations, former schoolmates’ salutations
Philosophy, theology, political disharmony
Family pictures proudly posted, children’s trophies shown and boasted
Rites and rituals ceremonial, secrets of the matrimonial
Delicious meals and recipes, suggestions that are sure to please
Births and deaths, declining health, lost or new discovered wealth
Entertainment, movies, sports, trips to near and distant ports
Spiritual enlightenment, wise sayings and encouragement
Jokes and chuckles just for fun, prayer for when the day is done.
With status updates constantly as scores of people write them,
Then Facebook friends from wall-to-wall find words ad infinitum.
Who knows what kind of walls for writing future days will hold,
But I can’t wait to see the words on heaven’s walls of gold.
