May your luggage be light,
Or may helping hands be many.
May family and friends farewell you,
Or may you slip away with no fuss.
May your fellow travellers be pleasant,
Or may you enjoy extra space around you.
May you possess enough money for all your needs,
And more for an occasional cup of quality coffee.
May your journey be smooth,
Or the unexpected adventures along the way enjoyable.
But even when it appears that God is not blessing your journey, heed the advice of a traveller of old, one whose journeys were often arduous. He wrote,
"Rejoice always, pray without ceasing, give thanks in all circumstances; for this is the will of God in Christ Jesus for you." (1 Thessalonians 5:16-18 ESV)
May your faith mature through the trials of travel.
May your mind be disciplined enough to be joyful, prayerful and thankful, no matter what.
On your journey, remember this fact. The Lord Almighty is with you.
Whether you're luxuriating in a ritzy hotel, retching in a third-world hospital, speaking the Queen's English in her palace or fighting rats in a dingy slum, the Lord Almighty is with you.
Whether you are as happy as a new bride, as forlorn as a new widow or as fearful as a worm in the beak of a bird, the Lord Almighty is with you.
Whether you proudly broadcast your faith wherever you journey, or hold it close to your chest like a national secret, the Lord Almighty is with you.
On your journey, always keep your identity in sharp focus.
Your are a child of the Lord Almighty!
Your home is in heaven!
Enjoy the journey.
