“That should just about do it,” I thought to myself as I aligned the edges of the crisp white sheets. The last pages of my son’s research paper dutifully clicked, clicked, clicked their way out of the device and left the stack of a 100 or more blank pages just waiting to be written.
For years I had waited for the day when I could set aside my worries, rustle up the courage, and embark on my freelancing trek. Today I would journey forth unto the great unknown and let the contents of my heart spew forth onto the white pages with serif type.
“Where should I start?” I pondered. “Should I write a song, a short story, a poem? Maybe a novel?”
Once I had flung wide open the door to creative freedom, a cold rush of uncertainty blew over me, and I wasn’t quite sure where to begin.
In some ways I considered myself a living parable. God Himself is an artist, having painted the majestic snowcaps, the frothy ocean foam, caramel sunsets and marvelous autumn splendor. His hands, those of the supreme sculptor have molded each life into breathing masterpieces.
But, to me, I cannot help but appreciate God, the writer. He spoke the world into being, and His Living Words have changed the hearts of men for generations.
I smile as I realize that I am His white sheet of paper. Though God has launched the manuscript He calls my life, He is not finished with me yet. His next chapter begins with my dream of pursuing the life of a writer.
Humbly, I nod to myself and lay my fingers on the keyboard. My heart and fingers work in tandem, tapping a simple thank you note.
“Thank you, Lord, for giving me the desires of my heart.”
