The chickory growing along the highway,
The lake in the mountains that sparkles and gleams,
Are there for your ultimate pleasure, it seems.
You’ll copy their color in ways that impress --
The blue of your jeans and the blue of your dress.
And what is the source of this marvelous hue?
As God is my witness, the heavens are blue.
The sky up above, unpolluted and clear,
Gives hope to your heart that the Savior is near.
And when it is clouded and heavy with rain
Be assured that it soon will be blue once again.
I have a ring made of diamonds and gold,
But the blue in the middle is sweet to behold.
It has a star that moves in the light.
This stone will impress you, as sapphires might.
The gates of Heaven have sapphires galore
You’ll find them agleam at the Kingdom’s white door.
And when you are lonely, your heart may be blue,
Just gaze at the heavenly skies nearest you,
Look up to the blue-tinted mountains whose views
Call out in wonder the heart-friendly news
That Jesus is coming to lift us on high
And soar through the heavenly blue of the sky.
