But a valley experience can be a joyous one as well. Consider Ezekiel’s vision in the valley of dry bones (see Ezekiel 37). Then the words of Handel and John the Baptist: “Every valley shall be filled and every mountain and hill brought low.” With this in mind, I wrote the following poem.
REDEMPTION
Bruised and battered memories,
Splinters of broken bones,
Hearts that were cleft in two--
God holds the pieces
In powerful hands.
He could crush them to powder
And scatter them on the mountaintops.
Gone would be the cries of souls in anguish,
The screams of men in hell.
The souls of babes aborted
Would never see the light
Or blind receive their sight.
Is this the end?
There in the Valley of Decision
A lily springs up
And a new day dawns.
He walks among the gravesites,
Identifies his own.
Fragile pieces are knit together
And given new strength and purpose.
Ashes rise up
And sing for joy
And the mountains are ground to dust.
The lamb will lay down with the lion
As we make our way to Zion
Where the King has claimed His throne.
