Raj was getting flustered about the day’s depression in stock values. “How sad! The index was bullish all these days, but now it is going down.” he wondered as he left his coffee untouched.
Deena looked in as he was adjusting his tie. “Don’t forget dear. You promised to come back early and take me to shop for diamonds.” She remarked. “Uh, huh” muttered Raj.
“Is this what prosperity means? All my hard work and judicious management… where are we headed?” he was musing as he drove.
As Raj began to start working, his mobile chirped. “Hello Raj! How are you? I am Dan, Daniel. Remember me. We were together at school years ago.” “Is it you Dan? Of course I remember you. How and where are you?” responded Raj.
“Why don’t we lunch together and exchange notes Raj. Let’s meet at the downtown restaurant at 1 pm.” Suggested Dan.
The two friends finished their main course and sat sipping coffee. “So much for talk about the golden olden days. But tell me Dan. How are things with you? ” questioned Raj as he put his cup down.
“Well Raj”, began Dan as he continued to sip, “I finished my Post graduation and got a job in the University. The job doesn’t pay all that much but I am happy teaching. My wife Maggie teaches at a school and we have two girls both in school. By God’s grace all our needs are met and we are happy and content.”
“What about things that matter Dan” expostulated Raj, “How many shares do you own and what is your bank balance?”
Daniel smiled as he slowly replied. “Contentment and peace. That’s what we need Raj. I also used to be like you. After I left school I’ve had a life-transforming experience with the Lord Jesus Christ... But that experience changed me. Maggie and the girls also believe in the Lord and we worship at the local church. We are at peace with God. We may not have luxuries but we have enough to eat and be happy. Not that we don’t have some trying times with our teenagers, but we cope with God’s help”
“I admire you Dan. Deena and I have been seeking wealth all these years. I keep multiplying my shares. But somehow we are not happy. We get what we want but we seem to keep wanting more! Yours I think Dan is the lasting prosperity.” Confessed Raj as he toyed with his cup.
Dan put his arm around Raj and said, “Well Raj, You need to accept the Lord Jesus Christ and make a turn-around in your life. Only He can give you true peace. The Bible says that meditating on the Word of God alone can make us have success and prosperity. Why not try it?”
Immersed in thought Raj murmured, “May be you are right Dan. You’ve got lasting prosperity. I’ll go talk to Deena and get back to you. Thanks a lot!” Tears swirled in his eyes as he got up to go out.
