Scurrying through, Adelphi was sobbing loudly, and in between tears, she fought hard to get out of the grip of Patricia, her older sister. “Why are you causing a maddening fight again, Adelphi?” Mum was loud and partially taking side without finding out the reasons for the fight.
At this moment Adelphi stormed out of the house and paced the streets aimlessly not knowing where to go. “I’m not going home from now on.” Adelphi said to herself. Strolling along the park she began to recall memories of her past childhood life. There is always the yelling and shouting, tethering of clothes and rustling of hair. Such fights seemed to be the mainstay in her home, and she was always the one to be blamed for all that had happened.
Sobbing silently and whisking for air, she recalled an incident when Patricia armed herself with a tough hard bamboo and meant to beat her up with it. Where could she turn to for help as her parents were indifferent toward her. She was harassed, demurred and was ostracized and isolated with barely enough food sometimes.
Once Patricia walked up to her, pointed the dirty linen to her face and accused her of dirtying it. Adelphi cried that she did not do it and then her mum would come by and slapped her. “Why are you so unfair, mum…I didn’t do it and why did you slap me?” Delphi would cry.
Why was Adelphi getting all the bashing and being wrongly accused? For the name of Christ persecution was one thing that Adelphi could not get away from. Since she accepted Jesus as her Lord and Savoir when she was 12, things had gone drastically wrong for her in her home. Her father would not talk to her, her siblings would fight with her, and her mum would ignore her if she cried out for any needs.
Adelphi was not aware of the price that she had to pay for accepting Jesus. Her home circumstances would be so confusing and alarming that she wondered whether believing in Jesus was one of the things that was worth the while.
“How can I live on…what must I do Lord?” Adelphi echoed the thoughts in her mind. “I have no money, no place to sleep, I have no where to go, Lord…” Adelphi cried within her heart. Just then a gentle hand tapped her on her shoulder and whispered, “Child, can I take you some place for a meal? You look haggard and must be hungry.” Adelphi stretched out her arms to her and was tearful towards the stranger as she leaned forward to put her arm around her. “I have no where to go and no one to turn to as I just left home.” Adelphi related to the stranger.
“Very well, you can come to my home. Why did you leave home?”
Adelphi grew, was strengthened in faith and one of her mission is to go home one day and share with her family what Jesus had done for her and to spread the love of Jesus to them. Her cry was that not only will they believe in Jesus but they will also receive her back into her home.
