Lost in the demented throes of putrid, devilish sin;
Nerves of steel morphed into whimpers of self-pity
As I searched for the way, the path, the out;
Suicidal intentions birthed suicidal surrender,
Inescapable blackness crushed the spirit,
Consciousness of deficiencies appropriated;
Amaurotic, tenebrous night asphyxiated my soul as
Inaudible wails escaped my heart of barricaded enclosure.
Yet You heard me, encompassing, merciful Creator
Luminous seeds of purpose mapped the pathway to Thee.
I turned as phantoms groped and clawed, unwilling to yield;
Yet You saw me, Your Word dividing asunder
Assaulting darkness, stripping bulwark of ignorance and blindness;
Your love compassed me about, radiated light.
I walked, I ran on hinds feet towards Your glorious grace,
Submerged beneath Thy blood, Oh priceless treasure;
Embraced in Your righteousness, enslaved by Your love.
This world is plagued with obscurity and selfish ambitions. Oh, a sinner might argue with relentless tenacity that they are having the time of their life and God is only a fabricated concept for the pathetic and lonely. However, I don't buy into their hollow platitudes. Examine the sinner's life of carousing and debauchery and you will find they are never satisfied.There is no sinful pleasure on this earth to satisfy the longing and desolation in a person's soul. John D. Rockefeller, founder of Standard Oil, was the first American billionaire and, at one time, the world's wealthiest man. One would think he had "arrived". Surely Rockefeller was content with being the richest man in the world! Yet, when a reporter asked Rockefeller, "How much money is enough?" Rockefeller replied, "Just a little bit more". Solomon proclaims, "Hell and destruction are never full; so the eyes of man are never satisfied" (Proverbs 27:20 KJV).
The path of a sinner is hard. Sure, there may be a temporary pleasure in sin--forfeiting your inhibitions, chasing that cheap thrill of drugs while continuously lying to yourself that jumping from one promiscuous relationship to another is real 'love'. Good-time Joe might think that he is carefree but there is a consequence to sin even in this life. The Journal of the American College of Cardiology published evidence which points to a link between heart disease and negative emotions, such as anger and hostility. The consequence of sin is also evident as seen in thousands of deaths and illnesses associated with sexual promiscuity, alcoholism and drug addiction.
Still, the lost sinner proclaims they are doing okay. John describes the condition of the world in John 1:4,5 (KJV), "In him was life; and the life was the light of men. And the light shineth in darkness; and the darkness comprehended it not". Proverbs 4:19 (KJV) states, "The way of the wicked is as darkness: they know not at what they stumble". The sea of humanity is drowning in despair and stumbling in the darkness, but they don't even know why they are faltering. There is hope! There is light at the end of each person's tunnel of darkness. Jesus said, "I am the light of the world: he that followeth me shall not walk in darkness, but shall have the light of life." Not all men will turn to the light, but we know some will turn to Jesus because we are still living in the Age of Grace, the time on earth when Jesus will save those who call upon Him.
Christians are called the 'children of light' because we are of God and we are the body of Christ. Jesus said if we abide in Him, He would abide in us; therefore, if Jesus abides in us, then others should behold the glorious light of Jesus Christ in our lives. In prayer, David cries out, "O send out thy light and thy truth; let them lead me; let them bring me unto thy holy hill, and to thy tabernacles" (Psalms 43:3 KJV). Paul wrote to the church in Rome, "... how shall they believe in him of whom they have not heard? and how shall they hear without a preacher?" (Romans 10:14 KJV). Multitudes of lost souls are crying out for truth and light. My prayer is that we illuminate the gloriousness of Jesus Christ unto all men and, with our conviction, show that He is the end to their despair.
