Children are so impressionable and their little minds are just like great big sponges. Their little minds absorb so many things while they are growing up. Lord, we can make or break a child with the way we are and the way we treat them. I guess Lord it goes back to how we were raised for we raise our children following that pattern we learned as children. If we were taught to be hostile towards people because they are different, we teach that to our children. If our parents were not compassionate, sympathetic and gentle we are hard as nails towards our fellowman and unfortunately our children learn their behavior from us. Jesus a teacher, Dorothy Law Nolte, wrote a poem in 1954“Children Learn What They Live.” That poem tells it better then I can and I think it is so true.
“Children Learn What They Live”
If a child lives with criticism, He learns to condemn.
If a child lives with hostility, He learns to fight.
If a child lives with ridicule, He learns to be shy.
If a child lives with shame, He learns to feel guilty.
If a child lives with tolerance, He learns to be patient.
If a child lives with encouragement, He learns confidence.
If a child lives with praise, He learns to appreciate.
If a child lives with fairness, He learns justice.
If a child lives with security, He learns to have faith.
If a child lives with approval, He learns to like himself.
If a child lives with acceptance and friendship, He learns
to find love in the world.
Jesus, I knew when you were ready to impart your wisdom to me you would lead and guide me to your Holy Word. I know I can find everything I need pertaining to life with explicit instructions. Proverbs 22:6 is so true. “Train a child in the way he should go, and when he is old he will not turn from it.” Whoa, Jesus what else do you want me to see in your Living Word. Ephesians 6:6 is wonderful. “Fathers, do not exasperate your children, instead bring them up to the training and instruction of the Lord.” Another scripture that teaches us how to raise our children to live Godly lives is found in Colossians 3:20-21. “Children, obey your parents in everything, for this pleases the Lord. Fathers, do not embitter your children, or they will become discouraged.”
Jesus, thank you for giving me this opportunity to talk to you and for your wonderful powerful words of wisdom I found in my Holy Bible. Now I know if our children are raised to live in this sinful mixed up world their minds can be unrelenting or hard as nails. If they are raised with, love and understanding their little minds will be tender, gentle or put another way soft as a feather. Jesus, I will talk at you again when something else perplexes me because I know you will let me ramble until I’m finished. I love you Jesus with all my heart, mind, body and soul for you are my Savior.
