There is no such thing.
Winter in disguise,
It’s all cloudy skies,
A bunch of chill precipitation
And lies!
Spring’s just a faux season
Committing high treason
With heat’s enemies
(ice, cold, and stiff breeze)
Who cavort, incite riots,
And do as they please.
This gang of scofflaws
Appears in the fall,
And bribe nature’s cops,
Who quite simply stop
Enforcing hot weather:
The temperatures drop.
The days get much shorter.
There goes law and order:
Sheer anarchy reigns
Here on these northern plains,
Home to gales, blizzards, snowstorms
And long, freezing rains.
In April or May,
So the almanacs say,
Frost danger has passed;
It’s springtime at last!
Get out to the garden
And plant your peas fast!
But don’t be so sure.
The glossy allure
Of seed catalog pages
Belies winter’s rages.
That season’s not gone,
And it won’t be for ages.
Yet sometime in June—
Not a moment too soon—
Summer stages a coup. . .
For a month or two.
The snow melts, the ground thaws,
The air's balmy, too.
In a heartbeat, it’s over.
Look! Here comes October
And November, that hellion,
To crush the rebellion,
Freeze every brave daisy,
Kill each holdout scallion.
I’ve demonstrated, complained
When summer’s detained
But the powers that be
Still won’t set summer free.
She’s always imprisoned by cold,
Just like me.
Dissenters, unite!
Work for equal climate rights!
Tyranny’s not terrific
(winter’s type is horrific),
so I’ll keep up the fight—
from the warm south Pacific.
Bye. . .
