The frown lines marked her face.
She had fought for freedom, sanity, basic rights, and she had won.
Even as she suffered, life's experiences made her wise.
A single tear rolled down her wrinkled cheek.
Her vision was blurred as she became overwhelmed with emotion.
Nothing that she had ever been through prepared her for this moment,
The moment when she would be reunited with her child,
A child that she was prohibited to rear, nurture, or love from birth.
As I took in the sight and stared in her eyes, her gaze never wavered.
She looked on intently at the child she had lost.
The child was now a woman, vibrant, and beautiful.
As I observed this woman, I could sense that she was conflicted.
Painful memories mixed with feelings of joy.
Still, I could only stare.
Time seemed to halt and there was only this moment
As I looked on I saw fear, regret, and then love and hope for the future.
My legs slowly pushed me forward as if I were in a trance,
My arms widened and encouraged an embrace.
As I stood before her I whispered, “At last!”
For I was that lost child; that vibrant woman
Quietly she stepped into my embrace and whispered, “My child.”
I couldn’t help but feel that there was never a time as great as this.
Finally we were together again, as it should be,
According to God’s perfect plan.
