We're all put here for a reason. I don't care what kind of a dead end job or circumstance that you're in. You are there for a reason. All that being said, I want to tell you a purely fictional story.
Pauly & Dave were good friends. Both had seen their wilder sides in the Marine Corps but Pauly was blessed and the Lord saved him early. Dave hung onto the hard "screw everybody" stance that they had both embraced in their younger days. Pauly had a lot of difficulty staying friends with this brother in arms because the bible which he so firmly believed in kept giving him messages like not to be unequally yoked with nonbelievers. But this was a friend that had stood by him so Pauly continued to love and nurture this wayward soul often carrying Dave into the house (they were nextdoor neighbors) when Dave passed out in his truck after a night of heavy drinking. It got really ugly sometimes, but Pauly was no stranger to a fist in the mouth.
Pauly had an additional problem. He really didn't understand why God had put him here. He often questioned God. "What's my purpose?" he would ask...and then he would go back to cleaning up the blood and puke and the inevitable diarreah and put his war buddy to bed.
When Sunday morning came around he would go over to Dave's house and watch Joel Olsteen with him. Pauly always brought his bible so that he could look up each scripture Joel quoted, just to show Dave how easy it was. A lot of people don't realize how easy it is to understand the bible. After this Sunday morning "bible study", Pauly would ride off on his bicycle to his local congregation for two more bible studies and the morning service. Then he would go home and join his friend and maybe have a few beers and watch the football game.
One Sunday was different. Dave had had a bad night. Too much jack and coke. Divorce on the horizon. Daughter pregnant. Dave's heart was broken. Pauly's heart was broken too. Dave asked the question. "Is there any hope for me?" Pauly spoke about the prodigal son. He talked about the lost sheep and how hard the Master searches for his own.
Dave was baptized that day.
As he came up out of the water, the sky was split from north to south. The voice of the angel announced in no uncertain terms that the end had come. Dave and Pauly were lifted up to meet the Lord in the air. The Lord reached out and hugged Dave. Then a remarkable thing happened. The Lord reached out and took Pauly's hand. It still had puke on it from last night. He kissed it and said "This is why you were put there. Well done good and faithful servant. Enter into the kingdom."
It could happen.

It would go up several notches if some of the errors in writing mechanics were edited...there are several, all small, but mildly distracting.
You definitely held my interest all the way through.
