Bewilderment to Brilliance

1 Corinthians 14:33 For God is not the author of confusion, but of peace……………..

We all have times when we are totally unhinged, bewildered and puzzled about things and events. We don’t understand or comprehend how tragedies, disease and suffering can come when we also know that God loves us. We will never be able to understand everything, we weren’t meant to. Confusion can be a dreadful experience brought on by trauma or intense sorrow. But like everything else under the sun, God can and does use our confusion for His purposes.

We question things small and large. Like why did He create jellyfish to sting us and seaweed and biting flies to make our beach experience miserable? Why tornadoes and earthquakes and unbearable devastation. Why misery and affliction? Why war? Why yellow jackets? Why fire ants? Then we have the big confusions like the ones that Job experienced.

Job 10-2-12 (TLB) “I am weary of living. Let me complain freely. I will speak in my sorrow and bitterness. I will say to God, Don’t just condemn me-tell me WHY you are doing it. Does it really seem right to you to oppress and despise me, a man you have made; and to send joy and prosperity to the wicked? Are you unjust like men? Is your life so short that you must hound me for sins you know full well I’ve not committed? Is it because you know no one can save me from your hand?

Job was obviously confused by all the ghastly things that were happening to him. He loved God and was faithful to Him but he still had a lot of questions. In his confusion—he sought answers from God. He sought answers and he got answers. The answers he got from men did not help one bit, mostly they just made the situation worse. But the answers he got from God made everything clear. The confusion and bewilderment of Job brought on a fervent desire for answers. With the answers came growth and a closer personal relationship with God.

God doesn’t mind if we ask Him questions? At least if we are asking Him questions we are true believers. He wants us to be curious about Him so that we open our Bibles and our hearts and seek the answers. I have heard people say, “Oh, don’t you question God.” When I am confused where else could I go but to the Lord? He is the only one with the answers.

True. God doesn't mind if we ask questions, only if we question his authority.

I have no doubts that God listens to our questions and loves us through our problems. You wrote a good devotional!

Thank You SO much for your contribution. I have been struggling for years with these kinds of questions. It doesn't help that I have people who look to me for answers to these same questions and all I can do is tell them that some things must be taken on faith. It always seems so hollow.

I won't bore you with my problems, but I want you to know that I really appreciate your approach to this subject. Keep writing.
