Day after day I write these really cute poems that just come alive in my mind with the characters walking, running, fighting, but I don’t even know how to try and transfer them to a sheet of 8 ½ x 11 ½ paper. They just disappear somewhere between my brain and the page. I just know these poems are supposed to be children’s books. They tell a story and teach a moral lesson along the way. Isn’t that what kid’s books should do?
Oh well, I guess I will just keep writing my manuscripts, poetry and magazine articles and forget about Billy Bob the Hillbilly Goat and Matilda the Cat. Those are just a couple of the characters I have written about and I tell you, I can just see old Billy Bob in his bibbed overalls playing his fiddle and Ms Matilda the Cat so mad at those kittens when they tear up her beautiful straw hat
I think it must be time to talk to my boss and enabler. Oh my goodness, I wonder how He likes that new title, enabler. Well, it’s true. If He didn’t enable me to write I sure couldn’t do it on my own. Maybe if I ask about the art problem He will have an answer.
My granddaughter, Hanna, told me I have to fold my hands and close my eyes or Jesus won’t hear me so I guess I better do what she says because I sure do want Him to hear me today.
Ok Lord, when I asked you what you wanted me to do with the rest of my life you said, “Write your poetry.” Well, I have done that but now what do you want me to do about the artist I need to find?
“Betty, you already know the artist you are searching for. You just aren’t looking close enough to home”.
“What? Who do I know who is an artist?” I can’t think of a single soul in my group of friends who have ever taken a brush to a canvas”.
“Do you remember how much you enjoyed the art class I led you to when you were back in High School? Ms Layfeldt was your favorite teacher because she introduced you to all different mediums of art: watercolors, copper craft, jewelry making , ceramics. As I recall you were so proud of your accomplishments.”
“Well sure but that was just high school stuff. It isn’t what I need today. I need cartoon type pictures, sketched on white paper.”
“So, get out your white paper and your drawing pens and lets see if we still have it in us today to create what you need".
“Lord, I recall a verse in the Bible that says something about “ if you take me to it you will take me through it”. Does that still work for me when it comes to drawing?”
“Yes Betty. When I told you to write your poetry did you feel my presence right there beside you each step of the way as you learned to write? Well, as you take out your 8 ½ x 11 ½ white paper and your black artist pen, I will be right there guiding you each step of the way. Now, get busy and show me your stuff! I have to move on to another one of my children who needs me.”
“Oh, by the way Betty, keep praying often and don’t forget to fold your hands and close your eyes. Your Granddaughter, Hanna, is a smart little girl!” I love hearing from you even when you just tell you good morning or good night!
