Is it any wonder we get nervous when a police car follows us?
“When was the last time you read the Bible cover to cover? Its full of commandments and they aint’ just suggestions boy.”
“Our God is a loving God.”
“Yeah right.”
With everyone out to catch us it is a tough sell to get people to believe that the police are our friends. It’s an even tougher sell to get most people to give up their notion that God is that big cop in the sky.
When we say we are a “civilized nation” we are saying that we live by laws and rules… but sometimes like the Pharisees we make too many Thou Shall edicts. Good bosses, parents, teachers, coaches, sports officials, citizens, judges, cops and Christians have a good sense about when to enforce the rules and the laws and when to be deaf and blind.
Well-applied temporary deafness and blindness from each of us will contribute to giving our police officers the respect that they deserve. It will also help people believe that our God is a loving God.
