The fine rays of the sun penetrated every pore in my face. The warmth flooding my soul was like a hot cocoa on a wet winter evening. I had been bound for so long and now this freedom engulfed my very being. Could my soul really contain such extravagance?

My eyelids fluttered open to behold the spectacular scene unfolding before me. My heart stood still for a moment as I tried to comprehend the magnitude of the lavish surroundings.

Every blade of the perfectly manicured lawn hummed a song of praise to its curator. The olive trees swayed in time to the delightful tune emanating from the breeze caressing my skin. The fruit hung from the branches of the surrounding trees like fine jewels. Even the rocks glistened as they lined the path under my feet.

This incredible display was nothing compared to the beauty of the people surrounding me. Clothed in the most stunning array of colours that seemed to be transposed from the rainbow itself, I gasped as I drank in the visual feast before my eyes. The garments were unlike anything I have ever seen, perfectly designed to enhance every wonderful feature of the wearer. The deepest violets and intense orange hues caused every cell in my body to react. Chocolate kisses planted themselves with delight onto every cell as I submitted to the pleasure being awakened within.

Each person was gloriously adorned with precious gems, diamonds and sapphires perfectly complementing each other as they reflected the brilliance of the sun. Rubies and amethysts fashioned into unique pieces that revealed the very nature of the person wearing them. But it was the joy radiating out of their very beings that overwhelmed me the most. Eyes that sparkled with truth and love as though they were completely tangible concepts. Smiles that had the power to overcome even the darkest scenario. Who were these people?

My lips parted as I prepared to ask the question out loud. At the same time all heads turned toward the shining sun. No sound came forth as I marvelled at the sight. The sun was moving. The light began to take form. Closer and closer it came as every knee bowed under the weight of the glory.

The King came closer and displayed the magnificence of his splendour. His appearance was exquisite. Every feature pulsing with strength and beauty. So fierce and yet so gentle all at once. Who could breathe in such a moment?

Everything within me sang out praise to this King of Kings, my Lord and my Saviour. I recognised him at once as the one who rescued me from the bondage that had so recently entangled me. Gratefulness flowed from my heart and rested upon his shoulders with ease. How lovely, how glorious, how wonderful!

And then he spoke. Words cannot describe the extraordinary sound that issued from his perfect lips. Forever I will remember how his words took on life within my spirit.

“See as I see. See me in all things. Live life! Really live it. Don’t wait until you die when you will surely see even more wondrous sights than what I have revealed to you now. I have come that you might have life and have it in abundance. Truly honour me now as you live out the rest of your days on earth, life the extravagant, abundant, faith-filled life. I am with you always!”

I closed my eyes and breathed deeply. As I opened my eyes I looked at the carpet on the floor in church and smiled. Life had just begun.
