DON’T NEGLECT THE PRESENT
One year, when I was young, Daddy gave me a beautiful present. At least the package looked inviting.
“Expensive wrapping,” I thought, “must have cost a lot.”
I LOVE opening presents, but I decided to leave it for later – I just had to find out what was going on outside. There were so many new things to see and do. I started exploring the delights and I forgot all about the present ‘til the party was almost over.
I found it just where I left it. How thoughtless I was, not to open it or even say thank you.
Picking a quiet spot, I untied the ribbon, my curiosity ramping up by the minute. There it was, the most expensive present I had ever received: eternal life, starting right now.
I could never afford to buy it for myself; I’d tried. It was here all the time, just waiting for me. God paid for the present in full, with the death and resurrection of His sinless, only son, Jesus.
This time I accepted God’s present for my past; no more guilt or shame. I no longer search for joy and peace; they are part of the gift.
Thank You, Father God.
