It was early Saturday morning, and Joey was eating his favorite cold cereal and milk while watching cartoons. Yes, this was one of life's pleasures that this seventeen-year-old survivor enjoyed. His dad took off years before, because of owing too much-borrowed money. And Mom passed away just a few years back from lung cancer. Picture this; the morning sun is stretching out and warming up the day just for me. And I am wondering why I am mainly thinking about the woman who told me about this man named Jesus yesterday. Why was this chance encounter still on my mind? I usually quickly dismiss those who have suffered loss from my quick hands.
Joey always watched and listened to both mom and dad in silence.
You see, his father figure wasn't around very much as he was mostly out and about. Joey promised himself that he would not smoke, drink, nor use any drug. Now this young man had to pick and choose what works for him in this life. He sincerely loved his mom and thinks about her often, early mornings, and just before bedding down for the night.
For some crazy reason, he never forgot what, his mom always told Joey that it was essential for him to start the day with a good breakfast.
As it was his favorite day, Saturday and still much of the day before him, Joey knew that Bernies " Collector" Bobby the " Jaw Crusher" would be looking to set his sites upon him sometime during this day. Joey was acutely aware that the Jaw Crusher had others that owed much more money than he. But It was keenly apparent that he would have some time to hatch out some crafty scheme before " The Collector " could locate Joey's grandfather's old cabin off the beaten path. Now, this was one of those times when Joey had to rely upon his flexible abilities. Furthermore, he may not be the who's who of grifter's, but he was always able to scratch out a living.
Now, who would believe that a lummox of a man as Bobby " The Jaw Crusher " could track down and collect with exceptional precision? You see, usually, anyone could find Joey anywhere in town attempting to hustle something or someone. What a surprise it was for Joey when Bobby pulled up in front of his home. It turns out that the big man's heart broke when he discovered where Joey was living. The forest across the meadow was rapidly claiming the light of the day and melting the evening dew—Joey kind of enjoyed the shadows of the trees as the sun got hirer in the sky.
Bobby's heart broke as Joey started sharing some of what he could remember of his encounter with the woman yesterday. Joey was impressed that this man named Jesus gave up his life for him. Yes, Joey was broken and needed someone to believe in; at that moment, Bobby remembered that he had also heard of this guy named Jesus in the past.
Joey needed clarity in his life, so he mustered up the nerve to ask " Bobby the " Jaw Crusher" to pray with him. Joey knew that something was right about what was about to happen, as he felt warm and fuzzy inside. A new feeling for Joey.
