Brad lived with me for a while but moved in with his dad at the age of twelve. I remarried and my husband and I met Jesus. Brad went to church with us from the age of 13 until 17 when he no longer came to visit us on weekends. Somewhere along the line, I believe from his dad, he acquired a poverty mentality.
Soon after high school he had a pregnant girlfriend. They had a precious little girl and they got married about a year after her birth. Brad had settled for a woman who was far below him in intelligence and education. She immediately decided she did not like me and would never come with Brad to family functions. She was lazy and mean to him.
When his daughter grew up, he and “mean wife” divorced. However, Brad immediately got into a relationship that was even worse. The new woman was selfish, and she wanted nothing to do with me either. She was very lazy and slothful in appearance and actions. His fornication with “lazy girl” finally broke up out of boredom.
One night while praying for Brad, I got the impression that he had never in his life been in love. I told my husband what I had realized and left it at that. Then, Brad introduced us to “answer to prayer lady”, Brianna. She is beautiful, intelligent, a hard worker and she adores him. Then I saw it: my son was in love I believe for the first time in his life. This lady brought him self-respect and dignity that became apparent in his appearance and in his demeanor.
After several months of dating, they announced their engagement and we attended their wedding. What a blessing! Brianna is bringing beauty and love to his life. She is my daughter-in-law but that is hard to believe. She is only nine years younger than me, so we jokingly call ourselves “sisters”. We do sister things like exchanging clothes and swapping recipes. We are both in the same line of work and have much in common. We have loved each other since the day we met.
One day Brad and Brianna took us out to lunch. This was majorly significant because in all of his life, Brad had never bought lunch for me. They come over for dinner often. They even went to church with us (again, something Brad never did as an adult). Here is my point: Brianna is a lovely gift to him and to me. I see God’s hand in their relationship.
God is definitely wooing Brad and Brianna to Himself. I praise Him that He gave me a glimpse of what He is doing. I know that they will be His in a matter of time. So, if you have a prodigal child, do not stop praying for them. God may need to take them through a process, but He has not stopped working on them. Praise God, prayer works!
