The older I get the more I think about Heaven. What will it be like? Seeing Jesus, of course, is paramount in my thinking; and seeing family that have already gone ahead is an exhilarating thought. But my mind doesn’t stop there. I tend to think that I will have a home there, and gardens to attend. I would like to have tea with my friends and women from the Bible. And, from the time I was a small child I have always said, “In Heaven, I want to have a lion as a pet.”
My love for cats started early. While I was growing up, I often visited my aunt and uncle’s farm. On my arrival there, I eagerly headed to the barn to see if there were new kittens. Seldom was I disappointed. One memorable mother cat was white and had one blue eye and one green eye. I was fascinated by her. Several of the barn cats made their way to our home, but, alas, we lived on a major highway, and not many of them had long lives.
Trips to the zoo or circus had me anticipating seeing large cats. Panthers, cougars, and jaguars were all captivating, but my favorite cats were the lions and tigers. Hearing one roar was an extra special treat. I still get goosebumps thinking about it.
You can probably already guess my favorite character from literature. It is Aslan, of course!
The fact that he represents Jesus just makes him all the more special.
Will there be animals in Heaven? Many people question that concept. I base my belief on the premise that one of the first things God did after breathing life into Adam was to put him in charge of the animals. Animals have enabled man to work the land, to have transportation, provided protection, and they have been loyal friends. There seems to be a special relationship between man and animals.
I also base my belief on Isaiah 11:6. It proclaims that in the Messianic kingdom “The wolf will live with the lamb, the leopard will lie down with the goat, the calf and the lion and the yearling together; and a little child will lead them.” And, Revelation describes white horses coming from Heaven.
I am convinced that cats, big ones and little ones, will be part of Heaven, along with scores of other animals. Speculate with me. What do you think Heaven will be like? What animal would you want for a pet in Heaven?
If you are not sure Heaven is your future home, you can know for certain right now. Romans 10:9 promises that “if you confess with your mouth, ‘Jesus is Lord,’ and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead, you will be saved.”
