“Her testimony was inspiring, wasn’t it?” my daughter asked when the radio broadcast was finished.
I agreed, of course. Very few people would not be inspired by a woman able by the grace of God to forgive a tormenter.
My testimony, however, is pathetic. Who wants to hear the story of a woman who has always known about the Lord and has always wanted to follow Him and has always done her best to do so? And, of course, has failed multiple times.
Lord, I have nothing to testify, I complained in prayer.
The radio sang out the song, “On Christ, the Solid Rock I stand, all other ground is sinking sand, so stomp your feet and clap your hands, your feet are on the Rock.”
Into my spirit melted a new understanding of my faith: no matter how far I strayed, no matter how horrible the situation, no matter how miserable the hardship, and no matter how long the journey, Jesus has always been the Mighty One Who has called me back to Himself.
He has been my Compass. When I got misdirected, He led me back.
He has been my Anchor. When I thought I was drowning, I grabbed the Rope and He pulled me up out of the water.
He has been my Rock. When the ground around me was sinking, I jumped on the Rock and He held me up.
He has been Faithful. When I was unfaithful, He kept His word to stay with me, even despite my wandering. He has forgiven me when I certainly didn’t deserve it, allowing me to come back into His loving embrace.
Now I see!
My life has not been dramatic nor exciting nor noteworthy, but Jesus surely has been! He has been steadily and strongly there. Right at my side. Right in front of me. Right beneath me. Wherever He was needed most, that’s where He has been. He kept His promise: “I will never leave thee nor forsake thee.”
Praise the Lord! I have a testimony! My feet are stomping and my hands are clapping!
