Is TV evil? No way! It is a neutral thing like music or art. How it is used is what makes the difference. Often, TV puts out extremely ungodly shows that revel in rebellion against God. Sin is glorified, and sin is supposed to entertain us. I hate most of TV.
However, thankfully, there is another side to TV. I heard about a young man named Brian who first heard about God on TV. He had never been to church and knew nothing of the perfect, amazing love of God. In his heart, Brian knew that he needed to change his ways, but behavior modification couldn’t do it for him long-term.
He was channel surfing one day and happened to stop on a Christian TV show. The preacher was talking about John 3:16:
“For God so loved the world that He gave His only begotten Son, that whoever believes in Him should not perish but have everlasting life.” (NKJV)
When Brian understood the meaning of this verse, he acknowledged Jesus as Lord of all and he asked God if He could forgive him for his past. Jesus accepted him despite his past. Not only did He forgive him, but He healed him and promised him an eternity in heaven. Brian didn’t have to make any changes in his life, Jesus did that for him!
If only TV would major on love, truth and the mercy of God! There would be no need to put the sole of my boot through the screen!
