"Hey soon to be birthday girl… I think we ought to get together and do some fun pampering for your birthday! We could even turn it into a girl’s night out why not ...it’s time to party!!! And since you’re the birthday girl… I’ll give you up to $100 in free product for partying with me! Please, please, please it would be so much fun!! If we were to get together, what would it need to be… A weekday, weeknight or weekend?"
How nice! How could I refuse such a generous offer? We decided to get together on a Wednesday morning. I relaxed into luxury as she covered my face in a creamy moisturizing masque and showed me some amazing new skin care products.
Then, reaching into her lovely bag, she brought out an order form and a pen. "What do you want to order today?"
“Let’s start with the $100.00 worth of free product that you want to give me for my birthday!â€
“No, that’s only if you bring three friends and they each spend X amount of dollars with me.â€
What? I thought this was a birthday gift. How could I have been so naïve? I felt violated and used, not to mention stupid.
This was no birthday celebration, it was a sales call. Her dishonesty showed me that she didn’t care about me, it was all about the money. It seems that her perspective on sales had caused her to wander away from the faith that I had seen in her many years ago. My prayer for her is that she return to her first love.
For the love of money is a root of all kinds of evil. Some people, eager for money, have wandered from the faith and pierced themselves with many griefs. 1 Timothy 6:10 NIV
If we have received Jesus’s sacrificial death on the cross as sufficient payment for our sin, He promises to meet all our needs, so we are free to use our business in service to Him in honesty and integrity. Knowing the deceitfulness of riches will keep us on track, free from pretense, falsehood, and deceit.
But remember the LORD your God, for it is he who gives you the ability to produce wealth, and so confirms his covenant, which he swore to your ancestors, as it is today. Deuteronomy 8:18 NIV
