He tried to tell the Angel, “If the Lord is with us how come we are having all these problems.”
The Lord did not answer his questions, but said, “Go in the might of yours, and you shall save Israel from the hand of the Midianites, Have I not sent you?”
Gideon answered,“I am from the weakest clan and I am the least of my father's house.”
The Lord did not pay a bit of attention to his excuses but said,”Surely I will be with you and you shall defeat the Midianites as one man.” Because he obeyed God gave him success.
I have felt like Gideon many times. I see all my flaws and give God all my excuses why I can’t do things, or how will I get out of this impossible situation. Several years ago I had one problem happen upon another. I had my pocketbook stolen. It was a hassle to replace my drivers license, cancel credit cards and get a new pocketbook. A week later I had a USP box delivered to me with my pocketbook in it. Nothing was missing but $20.00, not even a cell phone. That was an amazing surprise.
The next week I got stopped by a cop about a mile from home. I was wondering why he stopped me, I wasn’t speeding. He took my license and registration, they always do, and said, “Your license was suspended.” He took a long time in his car, I must have been on his computer to see why.
Finally, he came back and said, “You have not paid a ticket in Delaware from Jan 2012 and they suspended your license.”
I said, “I know I paid that last year.”
He told me what to do to get the receipt, so I could get my license back.
He said, ”For driving without a license I could take you to jail, and give you eight citations.”
I must have looked a bit concerned. But he continued, “I will only give you two, just make sure you take care of this before you drive.”
He took my license and said, “Do you have someone to drive you home?”
I said, “No one”.
He was being very kind and said, “See that parking lot, pull in there and park, I will go on down the road.”
It took me a minute to get what he was doing, although I was not supposed to drive, he let me drive home. I found out what happened, Delaware did not report my payment to Maryland. I was driving without a license for almost a year, WOW. God sure got me out of that jam.
Here were some of the stressful situations at that time. I fell and broke my rotator cuff a few months prior and was still recovering. My clown business was slow. Roommates that didn’t pay rent caused more money problems. But with an empty room, I was able to paint a large painting for my dentist. He gave me a two thousand credit on my bill. When I did got a job my car wouldn’t start. What to do? Thankful for a neighbor that was willing to take me to the show. I was almost out of propane, finally got energy assistance, I only had two and a half gallons left. Each time I get to a point where I am in a jam and don’t know how I am going to make it, God makes a way when there is no way!
I pray this prayer every day, “I trust the Lord with my whole heart, and lean not on my own understanding and in all my ways I acknowledge Him and He directs all my paths.”
Everyone goes through times of feeling like you are between a rock and a hard place just remember, Jesus said, “In this world you will have troubles, but be of good cheer I have overcome the world.”
