“No, I am not going to church this morning! You know there is a Packer game on today and it’s the playoffs! They need me to be rooting for them to win.”
“But, honey, don’t you think they might do even better if you go to church and say a prayer?”
“I can say that prayer right here in the peace and quiet of my own home.”
“Well if you insist. But who are you really worshipping? Just please give it some thought.”

“I don’t care what you say, I am not going to give up triple time just to go to church!”
“There are more important things than money, Fred. Besides, we have enough money. What we need is a closer relationship with Jesus!”
“Then you go get closer to Jesus for the both of us and I will bring home the bacon. More money means that beautiful thirty foot yacht could be ours.”
“If you say so Fred. But I am not so sure we will ever get that yacht unless we put Jesus first.”

“Oh Baby, you are gorgeous. What do you say we get together tonight and share some heavy breathing? I do nothing but think about you and how good you must be in bed all day long! You don’t know how much you turn me on!”
“That’s nice. But I tend to keep my mind on Jesus. He has done more for me than anyone else in my life.”
“If you would give me the chance I would do a whole lot more for you. I would even marry you in order to go to bed with you.”
“Really Terry?”
“Sure, Sweetheart.”
“But, Terry, do you love me?”
“What’s love got to do with it Darling?”

All of the above are examples of people lusting after something other than Jesus. All of the above are examples of people putting something before the one person in the world that can save us from ourselves.
Lust is defined as, an emotion or feeling of intense desire in the body. The lust can take any form such as the lust for knowledge, the lust for sex or the lust for power. It can take such mundane forms as the lust for food as distinct from the need for food. Lust is a powerful psychological force producing intense wanting for an object, or circumstance fulfilling the emotion.
People lust after many things. With lust for those things in our hearts, our relationship with Jesus can never be intimate. Our Lord and Savior HAS to come before everything else before sin can be removed from our lives.
I have learned that without sincere repentance my heart remains filled with all kinds of lusts. My heart is never filled with the Holy Spirit and joy when I allow sin to enter into it. Giving up those lusts is as easy as sincerely asking for forgiveness and using our own free will to say “NO!” to Satan and his wiles.
I have learned that we “SHALL surely die” just as Jesus promised in the Garden of Eden, if we continue to lust after anything. As God stated we are to “love the Lord our God with all our hearts and all our minds and all our souls.”
The lusts that remain with me more and more as my relationship with Jesus becomes more intimate are the lusts of gaining knowledge of the truth in His Word and gaining wisdom and guidance from the best friend I have ever had!
Praise the Lord for loving and caring so very much about me…enough to give His life to save me and make me whole. Amen
