“Tell me about it. And that is not the worst to happen so far. I can’t even track down enough copy paper for my student’s assignments. On top of that I and several other teacher’s haven’t been paid for two months. ”
“Didn’t the school just install a new gym floor for the other campus?”
“They did. If the school closes, who will teach our children?”
“Why can’t we do it?”
“You really think we can?”
“Ok. Let’s do it!”
The second grade teacher, Mrs. Thomas, attended the initial meeting of concerned parents and educators worried about quality education for their high-school children. One fateful conversation convinced her that elementary aged children needed an option too. Mrs. Thomas, Mrs. Fairchild, and Mrs. Smith worked hard that summer and within a few short months an elementary school opened sharing the recently vacated campus with a new high school. More than twenty years later both schools (now combined) are still going strong for children from age 4 through high school.
Author’s note: True story on the creation of a private Christian school started in a small community in Hawaii. Names have been changed for privacy.
