and peer through the darkness.
Tossing and turning
the minutes seem like hours
and all looks bleak.
Hope is elusive;
it's hard to find reasons
to expect the light
will return.
My thoughts race unhindered
on a course to nowhere.
I can't stop my mind from
betraying my heart.
There's an enemy that invades
my head.
His whispers are shouts
in the night.
I know that he is repelled by light.
He will back away
with the approaching day.
Hold on till then,
I tell myself.
His words are lies.
You know that.
The Light will dispel the darkness;
It is life
and the Life lives in me.
I close my eyes
and reach out
hands outstretched,
grasping for hope;
remembering His promise
to never leave me.
Thank you!
His strong arms hold me
in the darkness.
I relax
secure in this quiet shelter
waiting for the morning's joy.
