Then came sin. Then came the eradication of the entire human race save Noah, his wife, his three sons and their wives. Then came more sin. Then came the Tower of Babel and the scattering of people groups separated by language (a novelty, since before that everyone understood each other). Oh, and by the way, sin was still on the earth.
Let’s fast forward several thousand years.
The problem: “For since the creation of the world His invisible attributes, His eternal power and divine nature, have been clearly seen, being understood through what has been made, so that they are without excuse.” (Rom. 1.20)
The result: “And just as they did not see fit to acknowledge God any longer, God gave them over to a depraved mind to do those things which are not proper.” (Rom. 1.28) You’ve really got to read the rest of the first chapter to get the full effect of what Paul is trying to say.
Alright, I can’t resist. Here’s one more passage from the first chapter of Romans, “And although they know the ordinance of God, that those who practice such things are worthy of death, they not only do the same, but also give hearty approval to those who practice them.” (Rom. 1.32)
Paul wrote this about his time period, and unless you are one of the fortunate mythical inhabitants of utopian Atlantis, you’ll note things have only gotten worse.
Here’s a headline from CNN.com Friday, January 14, 2005, “Judge: Evolution stickers unconstitutional.”
Here’s the offending sticker’s content, “This textbook contains material on evolution. Evolution is a theory, not a fact, regarding the origin of living things. This material should be approached with an open mind, studied carefully and critically considered.”
According to the ruling federal judge, this statement is unconstitutional. CNN.com quotes U.S. District Judge Clarence Cooper as saying the reason behind his decision was the sticker made the school board appear to take sides with persons opposed to evolution on religious grounds.
According to Cooper, even though there is no reference to Christianity, Islam, Buddhism, Taoism or any other religion, the fact that the sticker even exists means the school board is siding with religious persons and therefore in direct violation of the First Amendment’s Establishment clause.
In case you have forgotten that clause reads, “Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof.”
So according to Cooper’s ruling the second half of the establishment clause does not warrant recognition by a federal court.
Now I ask a question. Christian, are you angry?
Well don’t do anything about it in a public place or you could find yourself behind bars like the Philadelphia Five. The four adults and one teenager are facing charges for speaking out against a gay rally. When they did not move after police asked them to, they were arrested. Apparently their rights were not as important as those in the rally, which, incidentally the city funded with tens of thousands of dollars.
I’ll ask the question again. Christian, are you angry?
It is hard to believe that our federal judges, including those on the Supreme Court, can hand down rulings in the name of the Constitution that so brazenly fly in the face of our founding fathers’ intentions. Apparently today’s federal judges feel after our founding fathers penned, “We hold these truths to be self-evident, that all men are created equal, that they are endowed by their Creator with certain unalienable Rights” in the Declaration of Independence, they had a change of heart before many of those same men wrote the Constitution. What happened in that period of time? As I recall they fought a war against one of the most powerful nations in the world based on the beliefs they put on paper in the Declaration of Independence.
Oddly, I do not believe the victorious outcome of that war changed their hearts. If anything it only strengthened their position.
Christian, are you angry? In your anger do not sin, but in your anger do not sit idle. Your God does not sit idle. Your country’s founding fathers did not sit idle. They were angry. In their anger they did not sin. In their anger they acted.
