Dear Grandmother,

Mommy says that soon you will be in Heaven. I hope you will come back to visit with me soon.

Oh. Mommy says that you can’t come and visit me. Grandmother why would you go somewhere and not come back? Don’t you like me? I promise not to run in the house and I will eat all of my vegetables, even the green ones.

Mommy says that now I am supposed to tell you how much I love you. I love you more than my new shoes, I love you more than ice cream, and I even love you more than Fat Bear.

Mommy says that it is now time to say goodbye. I’m not ready to say good bye. Can’t you stay longer here with me? I think mommy wants you to stay too.

Mommy says that you will be with Jesus. I know Him. He is really nice. I guess if you can’t stay here with me then you should be with Jesus. Grandmother, give him a great big hug like you do me. There were some people that were really mean to him.

Mommy says that you will always be in our hearts. I like that because then I can take you with me everywhere. I hope you won’t forget me because I won’t forget you.

What a sweet letter--it reads like children think. :)

You got me emotional with this one. It was short but packed a punch. You had the child's voice down pat. Death is often a hard thing for children to understand, but this child at least understood who Jesus was and how happy grandma would be with him.

Thank you for sharing this. I enjoyed it.
