You’ve heard it said that “beauty is in the eye of the beholder.” When I consider some art forms, I can agree wholeheartedly that this is a true statement. Some things that are called “art” can be called into question. That is my (somewhat judgmental) opinion.
However, if you were to look at my refrigerator, you would see true art! There are large sheets of paper with splashes of color that are just magnificent. All done by the hand of a child prodigy, Caylin…my granddaughter. Now, I know some would choose to differ with me, but they just don’t have a creative eye. They are too narrow-minded. Just ask me, her grandmother, and I will tell you…I will show you… and I will explain it to you!
Ha! If you are a grandmother too, you will understand my comments in the above paragraph. It’s so easy to be prejudiced when it’s “one of your own.”
This brings to mind how God must feel about us, His children. Isn’t it good to know that He is prejudiced where we are concerned?
When we make a mess of our lives in some way, we can give it to Him and let Him create a true work of art with it. If we allow Him to use our lives as His canvas, He can put just the right colors together and it will flow in such a way that others look on and marvel at what He has done, especially if they hear our testimony with all the twists and turns that sometimes occur.
But then there are always going to be those who may look on and scoff, or even scorn. They will not accept your life as a work of art, created by the Hand of God. Just as I look at some art forms and cannot grasp the concept or the idea the author had in mind, they just can’t (or won’t) see the good that is there.
Did you know that that’s ok? It’s really ok. Everyone may not be able to appreciate you or what God has done and is doing in your life. At times you may even feel as though there is not even one who does. That’s ok too, because He does. He always knows and He is always working, and He hasn’t finished yet. We are all a work in progress, for there are still colors to be added and lines to be drawn. In the end, it will be a masterpiece.
So, the next time you see a work of art that you don’t understand or can’t see the beauty in, just smile as you remember that you are His masterpiece!
…being confident of this very thing, that He who has begun a good work in you will complete it until the day of Jesus Christ…Philippians 1:6

I wonder if the conclusion So, the next time you see a work of art that you don’t understand or can’t see the beauty in, just smile as you remember that you are His masterpiece! would be stronger if you suggested that the next time we see a person whose "look" we don't understand, remember that they are His masterpiece? That seems to be more supported by what you said in the essay.
This was pleasant to read, and nicely written.
