Oh, well that's an easy question. You see, I have a hard working son who is a farmer. He's strong, handsome... single if any ladies are interested...
Anyway, he does work hard in his garden. He plants seeds, and plants seeds, and plants more seeds. Seems like that is what he does most days from the break of dawn till the sun goes down. Unfortunately, not all the seeds he plants will end up growing.
Sometimes he scatters seeds on the footpath. Usually the birds will come and eat them before they even have a chance. Sometimes he plants seeds on good soil, but there is a big rock almost directly underneath them. They start growing quickly, but then their roots hit the rock and they can grow no further. The sun usually wilts and dries them out since their roots have no depth. Other seeds get planted in amongst thorns. They start growing well, too, but if you know anything about thorns, they choke out those new plants almost before they even get a chance to start. But much of the seeds he plants ends up on good fertile ground. Those seeds grow, and grow, and produce abundant fruit! Sometimes as much as 100 times what was planted! He rejoices every time this happens. Even if it has happened before, each time is special to him.
And then, of course, there's harvest time. He gets to reap the reward of what he has sown. But let me tell you, this is probably when the hardest of his work occurs. You see, after all the plants have been harvested and their fruits have been stored in heaven, that's when he goes back out to the places where the plants wouldn't grow.
He goes back out to the foot paths. He knows the seeds will grow and produce a great harvest if they can just take root. The problem is, the birds come and eat the seeds before they have a chance to grow. He tries different things to keep the birds away. Sometimes he tries to make the footpath more narrow so the edges have a chance to grow. Sometimes he just has to go out and chase the birds away. There are a lot of birds, and only one of him, but those seeds are special to him, so he does his best to give them a chance.
On the shallow soil, he will go out with a pickax and a wheelbarrow. He'll hammer and hammer away at that huge rock underneath. Sometimes he will work all day and just get a few chunks of small rock to break off—but he does it anyway. Those seeds are special to him, so he does his best to give them a chance.
Other days, he will go out to the thorny ground with a pair of gloves and a pair of sheers. He will work all day cutting the thorny bushes trying to make room for the new plants to grow. Seems like those thorns grow faster than he can cut them sometimes!! But he keeps at it because those seeds are special to him. He does his best to give them a chance.
Now you would think the good fertile soil, that he wouldn't have to worry about it much. After all, it is fairly self sufficient. That can be true, but sometimes it has been a headache to him. Let me tell you a story that just happened a few months back.
One night, as we were all sleeping soundly in our beds, somebody came and planted weeds among his plants!! I have my thoughts as to who did it, but my son is too forgiving to let me confront him. Anyway, when his seeds began to grow and produce grain, we could see the weed seeds growing, too. He has some helpers who asked if they should pull out the weeds. He emphatically told them no! And he was right. If we tried to pull them out, we would hurt the wheat too. It would be better to let them both grow until the harvest, then sort out the weeds from the wheat. To make sure the weed seeds wouldn't germinate, he had them burned.
Yes, those seeds are special to him, but you are even more special to him. If you let him, He will do his best to give you a chance.
