“Good. Now cover your left eye and read this line please.”
“S…T…..D…I…E…D.”
“Good. And this line?”
“F…O…R……M…E.”
“Excellent! Your vision is just great! Your focus is right where it should be! Those corrective lenses that the Good Doctor gave you have given you clarity, haven’t they?”
“Yes, they have! They have improved my vision, my outlook, my whole life! Before He gave me these ‘new eyes,’ my sight was so blurry. I mean, my eyes were open, but things were not what they appeared to be. Everything was grey. I’d see something that looked beautiful, I’d walk towards it, and it would bite me! Imagine my surprise when I discovered that the thing that I set my heart on reaching was the very thing that nearly killed me!”
“Wow! I’m sure that was very disheartening! Would you say that these new lenses have changed your daily routine?”
“Oh, absolutely! I used to just stumble around. I wasn’t watching where I was going. Actually, I didn’t know where I was going. I didn’t know where my destination was, so I didn’t care how I got there. Because I didn’t have my eyes on my goal, I wandered from place to place, tripping over all kinds of stuff. It was like I was in a fog.”
“When did you start to realize that you needed corrective lenses?”
“I’d say it was a process. There was a slow decline in my acuity. When I was young, my vision was much clearer. The world was bright and new. A happy place. Then, as I got older, I became increasingly more near-sighted. First I couldn’t see down the road. Then I couldn’t see the signs. Then I couldn’t see the bumps in the road. Then I couldn’t see my hand in front of my face. Then I couldn’t even see myself in the mirror! When you lose sight of yourself, you know you need help!”
“So what did you do?”
“It was quite simple really. A friend told me about the Good Doctor. Once I heard about how He had improved my friend’s vision, I decided to ask Him to help me. Now I can see that He is indeed a Good Doctor!”
“Then the Lord told him, ‘Go to the house of Judas…and ask fro a man from Tarsus named Saul, for he is praying. In a vision he has seen a man named Ananias come and place his hands on him to restore his sight….Then Anananias went to the house and entered it. Placing his hands on Saul, he said, “Brother Saul, the Lord—Jesus, who appeared to you on the road as you were coming here—has sent me so that you may see again and be filled with the Holy Spirit.’ Immediately, something like scales fell from Saul’s eyes, and he could see again. He got up and was baptized, and after taking some food, he regained his strength.” (NIV Acts 9:11-19)
