The real work here was not the work, but the learning of their language and developing some kind of friendship with them. The only one he really made a connection with was a little baby girl with large brown eyes that reminded him of saucers! She was beautiful, she laughed and stared at him every time they had service. At first it was a little discomforting but later on he began to notice himself looking for her. As time passed on they became very close friends, together they learned the language and ways of the ancient tribe.
The old man and he drew close to one another also,
“It’s kind of weird”, he thought to himself, “ the more you work with someone, the more you learn about each other and the closer you get to that person”.
As those years sped by the old man taught him the value of friendship and the wisdom in it. He said if we love one another, those people we love will know that God lives in our hearts.
Sadly, Benjamin, that old man, died and a great memorial was held in those woods where he ministered Gods love. Tribes and nations from all the land ‘round about arrived to remember him. Each soul had his own story of how Benjamin came to share the message of Christ’s love with him; it was a sad and great time all at once. As the fire’s died down and all the crowds returned home the young missionary realized that the work and call of Benjamin was now entirely his to carry on. This thought made him cringe with fear, and then his thoughts were interrupted.
The bamboo door opened slowly and his young friend appeared, now a young woman. She humbly called his name, as the sound of her voice met his ears Gods warmth and peace flooded his soul, and he knew without a doubt, the work of God will carry on.
